The tower of San Michele in Cervia
The tower of San Michele is located in the center of Cervia and was built around 1690 by order of Michelangelo Maffei to defend the city of Cervia . Inside the tower there were all the services to make it self-sufficient: fireplaces, rainwater collector, showers, cesspools. It was equipped with two cannons and a bell to announce the attacks of Turkish pirates. he entrance to the building is on the first floor and was reached via a drawbridge. Above the entrance door there is a bas-relief depicting St. Michael the Archangel. From 1981 to 2004 it was the seat of the municipal library and today it houses the tourist information office of Cervia and an exhibition of paintings by Giuseppe Palanti. |
