The Butterfly House
The Casa delle Farfalle in Milano Marittima is a huge space of 500 square meters inaugurated in 2002 where it is possible to experience a unique emotion immersed in the spectacle of nature. The project was curated by the designer Ugo Lipuma and was dedicated to the memory of Matteo, the designer's grandson.
Here the ideal climate and environment of the rainforests are reproduced: a temperature that fluctuates between 28 and 30 degrees and a humidity that is around 65-70%, where you can admire butterflies with spectacular colors from all over the world. In fact, inside the butterfly house, thousands of butterflies originating from the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, America and Australia live and reproduce.
Walking along the paths of the greenhouse you can observe closely, placed on the flowers or on the large leaves of ficus, banana trees and other tropical shrubs and, as happened to us too, placed on your heads!
There is also a second greenhouse, the one dedicated to the insect house , an area completely dedicated to the insect mountains: bees, beetles and other insects originating from other parts of the world, will surprise you with lots of curious information on the life of invertebrates.
